“Because it is written, ‘you shall be holy for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:16
Words are powerful things. God used them to create the entire universe. His power is His voice. Words are tangible things when God utters them. That’s awesome!
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, and who is to come.” There is so much in that concept if one takes the time to dig a little.
I want to look at the word ‘holy’ for a bit. Not to be irreverent, but that word can also be heard as “Holey” or “Wholly”. Those are two totally different terms, yet, I think that they are somehow all connected when it comes to our salvation.
I am trying something different with this blog. A friend of mine, Dave, wrote a poem build from words and phrases like gold nuggets. I hope some of these speak to you.
Holy. Holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.
We have to have a hole before we can be wholly filled.
To be whole, that spiritual hole has to discovered.
Wholeness is a state that comes from knowing how empty you are.
To be holy is opening up that hole to the one who gives true wholeness.
When holiness wholly consumes us, that once empty hole becomes filled.
We need to have a hole before we can be made whole.
We will discover holes in our lives for our whole life.
Holiness shows us how empty a life is without the Lord.
Having holes make you uncomfortable. That is how wholeness becomes evident.
I’ve heard that there is a hole in all of our hearts that only the Holy One can fit.
Wholeness can never be found in this whole world with out the Lord.
Holiness in God’s sight is someone who has a need for Him.
So, maybe you are running on empty and life’s journey needs more fuel. I want to encourage you to not fill up with anything less than God’s best for you. If you feel like even the good things in your life are crumbling or drying out, there are perfect things coming to replace them. Less of us and more of His Holiness is the only way for a holey person, to become whole.
