Captain America’s Civil War trailer came out today. Talk about standing up against popular thought. I thought this topic might be time to talk about. Captain America’s choice to defend a friend creates a division in the ranks. A chain of events happen that tests loyalties and character. The good guy is now seen as a bad guy. That is what I call vilifying the hero or “herofying”.
Is that a far-fetched idea today? Not really. We are in a point in history where right and wrong are being flipped. It is happening everywhere and we can all see the effects.
If you are the kind of person who believes in doing what is right in a world that has seemed to turn its hate and fury against you, this blog is for you today.
Don’t lose heart. Doing what is right always leads to good things no matter what the news says. In real life the heroes might have to pass through fire and floods, but their character refines and their struggle defines what a true hero is all about. While we are at it, they might be a part of realigning things again.
As a Christian we can feel hate and evil knocking at our door. You might doubt your faith and wonder if standing up for truth is worth the pain.
Jeremiah the prophet was thrown into the same sort of topsey-turvey turmoil. He loved his nation and what it stood for. However, the Jewish people of his time turned on God and anyone who told the truth. In their eyes the heroes were now vilified. That would mess with anyone who feels like the good they do doesn’t matter.
But it does!
“Greater is He who is in you that he that is in the world.”
“In the world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”
“I am with you always even to the end of the world.”
Three promises out of many right out of the mouth of Jesus who is King of Kings, Lord of Lords and may I add… Hero of Heroes.
Don’t depend on your strength, ingenuity, or grit-your-teeth-and bear with it. Draw on His power as a hero who will never fail especially as the world gets dark and you feel like you stand alone. You have Him and…us who stand along side you.
