“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep his commandments,”
Deuteronomy 7: 9
Have you heard about the term “super fruit”? These are fruits that are highly nutritious and provide your body with essential business kid food blocks. Did you know that there are super fruits available for your soul? Our soul needs to be fed for it is the real core of who we are. There is the fruit of the Holy Spirit which enables God’s children to live a life of faith in the world. Each week we will talk about a different fruit or as some feel a different aspect of one fruit with multiple uses. On a recent car ride my family and I made a list of some of the natural super fruits that feed our natural body and tried to associate one with a spiritual fruit. So, here goes.
We thought you could compare a banana to faithfulness. Bananas are not only packed with vitamins, potassium, and essential amino acids with the recovery power of electrolytes, but Tryptophane , a natural sleep aid. It is hearty and it has been stated that if you were stuck in a desert island with bananas and water you could survive. That is some pretty good lasting power when you need it the most.
How is the super fruit if faithfulness different?
God’s super fruit of faithfulness ripens when our faith is weak and life wears us down. Jesus is faithful 100% when life takes more than it gives. God gives a deeper, more substantial staying power for energy, renewal, and rest. You get far more than you bargain for when you peel back the hearty skin as enjoy the sweet contents of faithfulness. What keeps a couple together when the world falls apart around them, when the family is under attack, or when the honest businessman, who is tempted to compromise his values for a buck?
God builds their faith by not avoiding the issues, but by enduring through each struggle. How about the glue of faithful friendship? Sure, we can attempt to vow to be true and faithful, yet mere human sentiment can melt under adverse conditions. So it has to be more than a promise. It has to be more than resolve, determination, or teeth-bearing grit. Isn’t it good to know you can draw on a source that is greater than you center muster? When it’s all said and done Jesus can give us that much needed rest through God’s Holy Spirit.
The next time you eat a banana try this. Peel back the skin, put your finger through the center. It will split in three perfectly equal pieces. It is like seeing the Trinity. When it comes to the real super fruit of the soul you do have the staying power of God the Father, Son, and Spirit’s faithful presence no matter where life might take you.
