He’s on Fire!

Shocked

By G. P. Avants

Ahhhh!

That poor man is on fire.

What a horrible sight;

Literally the burning man.

But…

As I pause

To put down

My cell phone

I hear,

The snap, crackle, pop

And see the waves

Of heat.

Through the pain,

It’s not screams of death

I hear but,

He cries,

“More strength

To endure.

Please help me, Lord

Oh, Lord,

Endure a little longer.”

fired-up-man-

I stand back

In a safe place

To consider

What this curious thing.

He’s not a charred

Smoking carcass

Though his

Outer self is flaking away.

The light breeze

Only

Takes away the outer man.

He’s a walking, talking, living

Constant radiating form

Of blazing fire.

this-man-is-on-fire-

It’s then I realize

He’s not burning from without

But,

Ignited from his  core

Within,

To the crust

Without.

The real vibrant life

Is inside

As,

The shell

Fades,

Pops,

Ripples,

Crackles

And passes away.

When I see

The man on fire

It no longer

Frightens,

But excites me.

glowing-fire-man-

This is the life

God intended

Mankind to experience.

Eternity, not time

Energizes

The hidden spirit,

The real person inside.

Like a single life,

A little light

Shines bright

In a dark, cold, and lonely world

And I think

That’s how God’s children

Should be;

Drawing others

Who are seeking

Light, warmth, and wholeness.

Like a moth

To a flame.

I made fire

And the man on fire

Ignites others

So more lives

Flame on

And burn bright.

I stop staring

At a fearful distance

Then move,

A little closer
