I’m sure you’ve heard
Of the Frankenstein monster.
Reanimated dude.
Bolts in the neck,
Seemed anger and sadness
He’d foster.
Things didn’t end well
With Dr. Frankenstein’s idea.
The townspeople got a little hostile.
Pitchforks and torches.
His experiment went poorly,
You see.
What if he had more time
And opportunities
To learn from his mistakes?
Would he build a better creature?
Better brain and body?
Sometimes it takes
A few more takes.
(To get it just right)
Why I’m thinking about this
When working on a set of benches?
I have no idea?
Maybe it’s because we learn
From our mistakes
Each time we try, fail and pray.
The first time we have no clue
What we’re asked to do.
The second time
Gives another chance to practice.
Maybe it’s perfect by the
Time the third time
Comes into view.
God certainly does seem to give us second and third chances–even more. What a gracious Heavenly Father he is–especially when we admit our failings and pray for his forgiveness and renewal! A delightful poem, Gary, with an important reminder for us all.
Nancy,
I would hope so. Having many chances is a blessing.
Thanks,
Gary
