Dude…it’s…too heavy

By G.P. Avants

“My burden is light.”

“What’s up?”

“Nothing much.”

“How’s the surf?”

“Same old, same old.”

“It’s a beautiful day.”

“What brings you out on a fine day like today, dude?”

“Just passing though.”

“So, what’s the deal with the box?”

“Oh, I’m glad you asked. It’s everything one person would need for their entire life.”

“What? What kind of things are in there?”

“Do you want to see?”

 “You bet.”

“From birth to death, it’s all in there.”

“Wow. How can so much stuff be inside such a compact space?”

“That’s a miracle all by itself.”

“Tell me about it. Hey, I haven’t seen one of these…”

“…Since you were 10.”

“Yah, how did you know.”

“Because it’s your life tucked away in there.”

“Dude, now you’re starting to creep me out.”

“Sorry, that was not my attempt.”

“Ah, if this is mine, maybe I should be the one carrying it.”

“Careful, friend. Its heavier that it looks.’

“Dude…it’s…too heavy.”

“Most lives are.”

“You must be Superman if you can carry this.”

“No, I AM the Son of Man.”

“Right. Who are you anyway?”

“You don’t remember me?”

“You do seem familiar.”

“My name is Jesus.”

“So, what are you doing with my life?”

“That’s the very reason why I came to see you today.”

“Whoa. You were looking specifically for me? In this huge crowd?”

“That’s right.”

“Lord, I’m sorry that I haven’t done with much you’ve given me.”

“It’s still not too late.”

“Really?”

“Yes, there are still surprises in here that I hope you’ll open up and take a look at.”

“I don’t know what to say. Sorry, I usually don’t start crying like this.’

“Don’t worry, that’s a good thing, friend.”

“What can you do with this box of mine, eh, this life of mine?”

“Glad you asked. Grab a handle and let’s take a walk.”

“Wow! It’s not heavy now. We can really do this together.”

“That’s the way it’s supposed to work.”

“Dude, you really are…super. Man!”
