“Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Thank you for being part of this thirteen week journey. Being an overcomer in Christ in today’s world has taken on whole new challenges. The world that we knew a year ago is not the one we live in today. So much has changed and we have to accept that fact. However, the Lord is still the Lord and his Great Commission to take the Gospel into the world is still valid to the end.
So, I want to leave you with a few closing thoughts and some verses that are timeless as God Himself. The fact is there are power in the promises that the Lord has given us. If we take them in the power of his Spirit, we have the strength to be the overcomers He said we would be.
“These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribilation, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”
I think this is a wake up call. This world is not our home, but we can take people with us there. That is why our focus can be to see people saved and having a relationship with God. Will we take flak for this? Of course. But we are not alone either in this life or the next. Impact the culture around you, don’t let it sway you from the Lord’s will for your life.
“For whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that that overcomes the world, our faith.”
In the midst of the COVID pandemic I saw two different and opposing mindsets prevail. Some became fearful to the point of total consumption. They believed all the worst things and took these issues to heart. While on the other side of the spectrum some casted all fear the wind. They took on an air of almost foolishness and didn’t consider what their actions might have produced. I think that between these two man-made mindsets is something only the Lord can produce: faith. Faith is wisdom that helps us look at things through a better lense and brings us victory where other extremes might not have. This is the center where God wants to draw all people so they can find true unity again. Make the main thing the main thing.
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who made us.”
Who in your life is like a floundering fish lost is a sea of sharks? We are called to be fishers of men and we have lived a life well of we spend our time bringing them back home. Believers are ordinary people too, but we have God’s call and power in us to do more than we are comfortable doing. The seas are rough but He calls us anyway. Get in that boat, get your nets ready, and may you bring in a huge catch!
“And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.”
You have hope, faith, love, the fruit of the Holy Spirit, a God, Savior and Lord of your life now, and for eternity. The world in darkness does not get why that is worth fighting for, but you do, right? Because you know how precious these truths are, you also see the wickness and destructiveness of sin in our lives. It’s worse than COVID because it is the cancer of the soul with a 100% fatality rate. However in the Lord, one person can put an enemy to flight if they stand in the power of His might. If you feel you aren’t the most battle ready warrior remember this: This little light of mine/ I’m going to let it shine/ Let it shine, let it shine.
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
Fighting for something good isn’t a negative thing. I am not an in your face, fight with two fists and call out evil loud and with passion kind of man. So, when I watch how some are fighting and standing up for what they believe, I ask the Lord how do I fight this fight of faith? Maybe like me, you think about the Bible calling us to live in peace, be a peacemaker, turn the other cheek and this idea timer to run counter to this?
But after we are told to suit up with the spiritual armor in Ephesians 6:10-19 what do the scriptures say “Stand. Pray. Be ready.” When the Lord guides us in our lives I am sure issues that require us to live the Gospel in faith will come. As certain as the life-giving sun rises, so does the cancer of sin. It will tempt us with food, sex, power, money to walk away from our God. It will attack our family, friends, and stir up enemies we never knew we had. So, no worries, a fight is coming and you didn’t suit up just to look good for your Instagram selfie #armorupforjesus. A fight is coming and you will be ready to do your part.
